Main Purpose of Job
This position serves as a Behavior Program Specialist in the delivery of training and technical assistance to local school systems (LSS) and individual schools to improve conditions for learning for students with disabilities.
Provides information, training and technical assistance to local schools systems, schools and service providers in the areas of school climate, classroom management, student behavior and discipline for students with disabilities birth to 21; provides technical assistance to MSDE, local school systems, individual schools and service providers in the development, implementation, and evaluation of PBIS, SEFEL and other Evidence Based Practices (EBPs) or promising practices; assists LSS in implementing the IDEA regulations related to behavior including discipline and suspension and performing other duties; collects data and provides analysis for general program development activities will be required to sustain existing SEFEL/PBIS infrastructures; builds new systems of support to improve behavioral supports and services, school climate, classroom management and behavior for students with diverse disabilities including children on the autism spectrum.
MINIMUM EDUCATION OR GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION: A Masters Degree or equivalent 36 credit hours of post-baccalaureate course work in Special Education, Education, Health, Educational Administration/Supervision, or a related field. EXPERIENCE: Four (4) years of professional administrative or teaching experience in or affiliated with special education or interagency functions.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred: Knowledge of State and federal laws, regulations, policies, and issues governing education programs for students with disabilities; skill in implementing, monitoring, and evaluating. Ability to interpret and apply laws and regulations governing special education programs ability to research and analyze data and make decisions; ability to work as a team member and establish and maintain effective working relationships.
