School Psychological Services/Team Leader for School Safety

Main Purpose of Job

This is a professional position providing leadership, consultation, and technical assistance to develop and implement the program of school psychological services in local school systems aligned with coordinated student services supporting improved learning outcomes for the students of Maryland.

POSITION DUTIES

Provides leadership and support to Psychological Services Programs to include: collaborating with staff in the Program Improvement and Family Support branch to provide guidance and support regarding school climate and school improvement at schools in restructuring with high concentrations of children from low-income families to support student achievement in accordance with department policies and procedures; represents Division of Student, Family, and School Support (DOSFSS) and coordinates Division responses for students with disabilities, students with mental health needs, and students with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in collaboration with the Division of Special Education/Early Intervention Services; leads the administrative and professional staff assigned to the School Safety and Climate Team, which is responsible for Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS), the Maryland Safe and Supportive Schools (MDS3) Grant, bullying prevention, gang prevention, and emergency response planning.

MINIMUM EDUCATION OR GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION: Master's, advanced graduate specialist's, or doctoral degree in either psychology, education, or human development from an IHE and have completed 60 semester hours of graduate courses at an IHE (30 of which must be from one institution) to include course work in areas of study and defined in COMAR; or  an advanced graduate specialist's, or doctoral degree in school psychology from a National Association of School Psychologists, NCATE, American Psychological Association, or State Department of Education approved program and meet qualifying scores on the State-approved test for school psychologist; or a valid Nationally Certified School Psychologist certificate issued by the National School Psychology Certification Board.  

EXPERIENCE: Five years of administrative experience in or affiliated with, school psychological services, including two years of experience coordinating or administering a school psychological services program. Professional experience interpreting, implementing and communicating education policies and procedures including emergency preparedness/response is desirable.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of State and federal laws, regulations, policies, and programs including the Elementary and Secondary Education Act and the Code of Maryland Regulations; skill in delivering technical assistance, training, and guidance to local school systems, and internal and external stakeholders related to the administration and coordination of school psychological services programs; skill in managing multiple projects, timelines, and deadlines; ability to work as a team member; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
