Main Purpose of Job

Plan, develop, implement and maintain a comprehensive, safe and therapeutically effective Health and Wellness Education Program which promotes self - sufficiency and independence for all individuals with disabilities within the Workforce and Technology Center. This will enhance the organization's projected outcome of increased independence and or competitive employment for the consumer.

POSITION DUTIES

Provide health service in the Health & Wellness Center to the consumers, staff, volunteers, and visitors.  Maintain, and provide health education and community based resources related to vocational and disability issues for DORS/WTC consumers.  Provide education/in-services to staff/consumers on nursing and health related issues. Provide daily updated information regarding the list of consumers on medication monitoring including names and the times of the medications to be taken, as well as follow-up to ensure compliance.

MINIMUM EDUCATION OR GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

Education:  Determined by the MD State Board of Nursing under the licensing requirements for Registered Nurses.  

Experience:  2 years of Nursing experience.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of the principles, practices, and theory of the registered nursing process; skill in observing and measuring the effects of nursing intervention; skill in providing accurate nursing documentation and record keeping; skill in assessing physical, emotional and social needs of patients; skill in developing a plan of care for the patient.  Ability to communicate effectively with patients, facility staff and health department personnel as well as other community health, welfare and educational agencies; ability to establish effective working relationships with community health, welfare and educational agencies, patients and their families, and the general public.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Registered Nurse from the MD State Board of Nursing, 4140 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore MD 21215.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Employees in this classification are subject to call-in and, therefore, will be required   to provide the facility with a phone number at which they reached.

2. Employees in the classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with the Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
