Main Purpose of Job

The MIA's Compliance and Enforcement Unit is recruiting for the position of Market Conduct Examiner, Life and Health.  This position reports to the Assistant Chief of Market Conduct Examiner, Life and Health.  Responsibilities include conducting a market conduct action concerning the business practices of insurance companies, including life and health; third-party administrators; managed care organizations; pharmacy benefit managers; private review agents; fraternal benefit societies; out of state associations; and other regulated entities to ensure compliance with applicable insurance laws and regulations and compliance with corrective action plans. The Market Conduct Examiner, Life and Health is responsible for performing the market conduct action, drafting portions of a market conduct examination report, and ensuring that market conduct actions meet national regulatory standards.  The position involves extensive in and out of state travel and attendance at various training, industry or regulatory seminars and meetings.

MINIMUM EDUCATION OR GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

Education:  Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university.

Experience:  A minimum of one (1) to three (3) years of experience in the Life & Health insurance industry. 

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in the Life insurance industry is preferred.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills are desired.
  • Ability to work closely in cooperation with other examiners.

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

This position is only available to current employees of the Maryland Insurance Administration.
