Introduction
This is an Agency Specific Recruitment for the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services. The resulting eligible list will be used to fill current and future vacancies in Correctional facilities in Hagerstown and/or Cumberland, Maryland ONLY. Applicants certified to this list will remain eligible for one year. Approved applicants interested in future vacancies in this job classification in other regions must apply when those vacancies are announced.

LOCATION OF POSITION
The current vacancy is in Hagerstown, Maryland
Main Purpose of Job
To provide administrative and clinical supervision, and leadership to addiction counselors who are responsible for providing substance abuse treatment services, including those who are dually diagnosed.
POSITION DUTIES
An Alcohol and Drug (A/D) Professional Counselor Supervisor is the supervisory level of work, at the certified Master's Degree level, counseling clients with substance abuse disorders by using intervention, treatment and rehabilitation. Employees in this classification supervise lower-level Alcohol and Drug Counselors.
Employees receive general supervision from a program administrator. Employees in this classification may be required to work evenings and weekends. The work is performed in State addiction programs located in State institutions, facilities and offices including inpatient and outpatient facilities, jails, detention centers, prisons, halfway house facilities and community-based programs.
MINIMUM EDUCATION OR GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
Education: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists under the requirements for Certified Professional Counselors-Alcohol and Drug.
Experience: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists under the requirements for Certified Professional Counselors-Alcohol and Drug.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
1. In accordance with Health Occupations Title 17 and Code of Maryland Regulations 10.58.07, candidates placed in this classification must be either certified or licensed by the Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists as a Certified Professional Counselor-Alcohol and Drug or Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor.
2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Candidates must possess graded courses in management and supervision as defined by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Administration (ADAA), Maryland State Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. This training must be approved by ADAA. Inquiries concerning this training must be addressed to the Office of Education and Training for Addiction Services, 55 Wade Avenue, Catonsville, Maryland 21228.
2. Employees are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
SELECTION PROCESS
The examination will consist of an evaluation of your education, training, and experience related to the requirements of the job (as documented by the Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists), and proof of certification/licensure and required ADAA-approved courses in supervision and management. You must also complete the Supplemental Questionnaire. It is important that you provide complete and accurate information on your application. Successful candidates will be placed on the employment eligibility list. The list will be valid for at least one year and may be extended. The list will be used by the hiring agency to select employees interested in working in the region where the vacancy exists.
