Main Purpose of Job
This is a professional position responsible for providing technical assistance to Local Education Authorities (LEAs), schools, agencies and sites where children and adults participate in Maryland Nutrition Programs while improving program performance by training and conducting Federal and State reviews.
POSITION DUTIES
Provides technical assistance to institutions, sponsoring organizations and LEAs that participate in the National School Lunch Program, School Breakfast Program, Child and Adult Care Food Program, Summer Food Service Program, Special Milk Program and Food Distribution program; conducts program reviews and nutrient analysis of menus using approved software; analyzes information compiled and communicates these findings and areas of compliance and non-compliance and program strengths and weaknesses through written reports and verbal presentations to institutions and LEA’s; develops comprehensive Corrective Action Plans (CAPS) for sponsoring organizations and LEA’s that participate in the Nutrition Programs administered by MSDE; interprets federal and State regulations and policies to accurately assess, document and complete, performance and compliance evaluations conducted throughout the State by the various agencies and sites participating in State and federal Nutrition Programs; assesses program compliance and reports results; attends workshops and training sessions to remain current on regulatory and policy issues: implements, professional training sessions for Nutrition Program participants.
MINIMUM EDUCATION OR GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION: A Bachelor’s Degree in Food Service Administration, Consumer Science, Dietetics, Nutrition, Public Health or a related area.
EXPERIENCE: Two years of professional experience in nutrition program coordination or management. Experience in Child Nutrition Programs preferred; Registered Dietitian desired.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of federal laws and regulations governing food service and School and Community Child Nutrition Programs; knowledge of food safety, menu planning, and food production; skill in assessing programs and recommending improvements; skill organizing, developing, and presenting training programs; skill with nutrient analyses, and office software applications; ability to interpret and apply USDA and MSDE policies, procedures and standards; ability to organize and manage multiple tasks; ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships in a team environment.
