Main Purpose of Job

This position manages the daily operations of the technical units of the Forensic Sciences Division through the direction of section managers and unit supervisors. It serves as second in command for the Forensic Sciences Division and Acting Director in the Director's absence.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION - Possession of a Master's degree in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, genetics, medical technology, pharmaceutical science, or related physical, natural or forensic science from an accredited college or university.

EXPERIENCE - Applicants must have a minimum of six years of experience in comparative analysis or scientific evaluation of evidence including experience in providing court testimony as an expert forensic witness.  Three of the six years of experience must have been in a full-time supervisory or managerial capacity.

NOTE 1. Possession of a Doctorate degree in any of the above referenced disciplines from an accredited college or university may be substituted for two years of the required non-supervisory experience.

2  Additional experience in comparative analysis or scientific evaluation of evidence including experience in providing court testimony as an expert forensic witness may be substituted for the required education at a rate of one year for each year of the required education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

EXPERIENCE - Applicants should have at least two years of management experience in an ASCLD/LAB accredited forensic laboratory.  This experience should include managing / preparing unit budgets and grant administration.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

In accordance with Section 2-204 (b) (6) of the Public Safety Article, candidates for positions in this classification may be subject to an initial drug screening, a complete criminal background investigation, to include a polygraph examination, before permanent appointment can be made.  A criminal conviction may be grounds for rejection.
