By law, DJS is a child-serving agency responsible for assessing the individual needs of referred youth and providing intake, detention, probation, commitment, and after-care services.  DJS collaborates with youth, families, schools, community partners, law enforcement, and other public agencies to coordinate services and resources to contribute to safer communities.

LOCATION OF POSITION

Cheltenham, MD. (Prince George's County)

Main Purpose of Job

The Electrician Senior position involves performing skilled level work in the electrical trade, such as maintenance and repairs on complex electrical systems within the DJS facilities, specifically the Cheltenham Youth Facility.

POSITION DUTIES

The Electrician Senior performs routine preventive maintenance on electrical systems, equipment, and machinery; such as inspecting controls, switches, meters, fuses, wires, motors, generators and transformers. The incumbent will be responsible for applying appropriate electrical theories, principles, and codes to address specific electrical problems. The Electrician Senior will be responsible for making recommendations to agency personnel on the resolution of technical and complex electrical problems.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education: Completion of eighth grade.

Experience: Five years of experience installing, repairing, testing and maintaining electrical systems, equipment, fixtures and control devices at commercial or residential buildings or other facilities.

Notes:

1. Additional experience as described above may be substituted on year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Graduation from an accredited vocational or technical high school or other vocational or technical school with a concentration in electricity may be substituted for three years of the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates who possess a High School Diploma are highly desired.

Candidates who possess a electrician/electrical trade certification or license are high desired.

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

Candidate must be willing to adhere to a on-call 24hrs/7days a week work schedule.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Employees in this classification who are assigned to facilities that mandate licensed electricians must possess a current license as a Master Electrician or other appropriate electrician license from a local board or from the Maryland State Board of Master Electricians, 500 N. Calvert Street, Baltimore, Maryland 21202-3651.

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Employees in this classification may be subject to call-in 24-hours a day and may be required to provide the employing agency with a telephone number where they can be reached.

2. Employees in this classification who are designated as Level I or Level II employees shall attend and successfully complete the appropriate asbestos safety and health training as required by Executive Order 01.01.1987.22.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
