Main Purpose of Job

Maintains the Easton Barrack and grounds in a safe, neat, orderly and sanitary condition.

POSITION DUTIES

Assigns maintenance tasks to semi skilled and unskeilled; Reviews completed work; Maintains routine records; performs preventive maintenance; construction and repair work at the semi skilled level in several trades; Prepares walls for painting; Erects temporary or permanent fencing; Resurfaces roadways and walks; Trains and leads lower-level maintenance mechanics; semi-skilled and unskeilled workers; May erect stage scenery and rearrange furniture; May inspect buildings and grounds for adherence to institutional safety and sanitary regulations; May operate automobiles, pickups and panel trucks, tractors and power mowers; Performs other related duties.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education: Completion of the eighth grade.

Experience: Four years of experience in any combination of the maintenance trades of which three years shall have been in the trades of electricity, plumbing, steam fitting, refrigeration or air conditioning.

Notes:

1. Applicants may substitute additional experience in any of the maintenance trades on a year-for-year basis for up to three years of the required education.

2. A degree from an accredited vocational or technical high school with a major in Building Maintenance or a related field may be substituted for up to three years of the required general experience.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Applicants may be subject to an extensive background investigation prior to appointment.

2. Employees in this classification will be required to provide a telephone number at which they can be reached.

SELECTION PROCESS

Only candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be considered for this classification.  Therefore, it is essential that you provide complete and accurate information on your application.  Successful candidates will be placed on the employment Eligible List categorized as BEST QUALIFIED, BETTER QUALIFIED OR QUALIFIED and remain eligible for consideration for at least one year from the date of examination.  The list will be used by the hiring agency to select employees.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

The examination will consist of a rating of your education, training and experience related to the requirements of the position. You may be required to complete a qualifications supplement, or the rating may be based on your application.  Report all experience and education that is related to this position. Applicants may be given a physical examination and will be subject to an interview, background investigation, polygraph examination and substance abuse testing

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

This position is in a bargaining unit which is required to pay a service fee to the exclusive representative of the unit.
