Main Purpose of Job

The position is responsible for investigating and taking the needed actions on reported referrals of over issuance and over payment of Family Investment Program benefits. The position is responsible for evaluating the appeal issues involved in any fair hearing request received, determining the accuracy of the local department's decision regarding the appellant's request for assistance; and professionally representing the agency's case to the Administrative Law Judge.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education: Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Two years of experience determining eligibility for governmental assistance programs.

Notes:

1. Additional experience determining eligibility for governmental assistance programs may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for up to four years of the required education.

2. These requirements are established by the Family Investment Administration by authority provided in Human Services Article Title 5, Subtitle 2, Section 204 (b)(1) of the Annotated Code of Maryland.  The Office of Personnel Services and Benefits of the Department of Budget and Management and the Examination Services Unit of the Department of Human Resources do not have the authority to accept substitutions or equivalents.

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

Limited to current employees of the Baltimore County Department of Social Services working within the Family Investment Administration.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

SELECTION PROCESS

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
