LOCATION OF POSITION

This position is within the Facilities Operations & Maintenance Division of the Department of General Services, located at 310 W. Saratoga Street, Baltimore, Maryland.

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to perform master plumber-level work in the installation, maintenance, inspection, modification, remodel and repair of mechanical plumbing equipment and fixtures for water, gas, oil, steam, sewage and refrigeration-related plumbing systems. This licensed position is responsible for all aspects of plumbing for the Inner Harbor Complex which oversees the maintenance and operation of eight (8) state-owned facilities located in Baltimore City and Howard County and performs related work as required.

POSITION DUTIES

A Plumber is the full performance level of work repairing, installing and maintaining plumbing systems, pipes and other plumbing fixtures in State institutions, hospitals and facilities. Employees in this classification do not supervise.  Employees receive general supervision from a Maintenance Supervisor or other designated higher-level maintenance staff.

The duties of this position include but are not limited to: Performing plumbing duties for the Inner Harbor Complex; and conducting routine scheduled building inspections and analysis.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education: Completion of the eighth grade.

Experience: Two years experience as a journeyman plumber, one year of which includes installing and repairing sanitary plumbing appliances.

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in utilities repair classifications or construction and engineering specialty codes in the plumbing field of work, on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

This recruitment is limited to applicants willing to accept employment in Baltimore City.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Possession of a Maryland Journeyman/Gas Fitter License is required

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
