Introduction

The Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation (DLLR), Office of Information Technology (OIT)  is accepting applications from qualified candidates, within OIT,  for the position of Computer Operator Supervisor.

This is a position specific recruitment. The resulting list of eligible will be used to staff this position or function only. This list will be maintained for one year. You will need to reapply for any future recruitment for this job classification.

LOCATION OF POSITION

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position will be to manage and coordinate the various functions within OIT for processing of automated procedures requested by numerous work units and the Annapolis Data Center, including computer and laser output.

POSITION DUTIES

This position will:  monitor/supervise job execution between work unit and Data Center as well as interaction between Laser Unit and Production Control Unit; examine problem areas to ensure time resolution and preventive measures for the future (procedural); staff performance evaluation/counseling (training, motivating, disciplinary actions); and commicate with various management personnel to inform them of status, problems (potential as well as actual).

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Four years of experience operating multipurpose, multi-tasking computer systems.

Notes:

1. Experience operating computer equipment for the purpose of data entry, word processing or maintaining information may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Fifteen credit hours in computer operation at an accredited college or university may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum of one (1) year of experience with the Maryland Tax System, Maryland Wage Record System and the Maryland Automated Benefit System.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

All candidates are subject to a background check against files maintained by the Division of Unemployment Insurance (DLLR/DUI) to determine whether any monies are owed to DLLR/DUI as a result of an unemployment insurance overpayment and/or fraud.

Any unpaid debt may have an impact on whether or not a candidate is offered employment.

SELECTION PROCESS

Should a classification require a certain amount of credit hours in a particular field (i.e. fifteen credit hours in computer operation at an accredited college or university), you must submit the transcript for verification.

All information concerning the qualifications, including any required documentation (high school diploma, transcript, accredited college and/or university diploma, certificate, etc.) must be submitted and received by the closing date. Information submitted after this date will not be considered.

Failure to submit the required documentation will result in the application being disapproved.

Applications that meet qualifications will be referred to the hiring unit for interview selection. Units will select those candidates most closely demonstrating the qualifications for interview.

The certified list will be used by DLLR for a period of one year.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

The examination for this recruitment will be an evaluation and rating of the information provided on your application.  Therefore, it is essential that the application is filled out completely and accurately, detailing and documenting  all relevant education and experience and addressing the specific qualifications shown above. If applicable, a copy of your college transcript must be submitted with your application. Failure to submit your transcript will result in your application being disapproved.

Successful candidates will be placed on the eligible list categorized as Best Qualified, Better Qualified or Qualified.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.

Military Veterans may qualify for additional bonus points towards certification. A copy of your proof of eligibility (DD 214) for Veterans’ Credit must be in this office and completely verified before Veterans’ Credit will be approved.  Permanent State employees do not need to submit proof of eligibility for Veterans’ Credit.
