The Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation is accepting applications from qualified candidates for an Office Secretary III position within Correctional Education.  The resulting eligible list will be used to fill this position or function only.  Persons interested in future positions will need to reapply.

Main Purpose of Job

To provide secretarial and administrative services for the correctional education program located at the Correctional Facility.

POSITION DUTIES

Develop and maintain files on student transfers, referrals, promotions, removals, records, and graduations; update records on school database for monthly report accurately; receive telephone calls and visitors; prepare and disseminate daily student information on location changes and status; prepare correspondence for the review and signature of the Principal/Teacher Supervisor.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Three years performing secretarial or clerical work involving typing duties.

Notes: 1. Additional secretarial or clerical experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Thirty credit hours with a major in secretarial science or office technology from an accredited college may be substituted at the rate of thirty credits for one year of experience for up to two years of the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred candidate must be willing to work in a Correctional Facility.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

All candidates are subject to a background check against files maintained by the Division of Unemployment Insurance (DLLR/DUI) to determine whether any monies are owed to DLLR/DUI as a result of an unemployment insurance overpayment and/or fraud. Any unpaid debt may have an impact on whether or not a candidate is offered employment.

All information concerning the qualifications, including any required documentation (diploma, transcript, certificate, etc.) must be submitted and received by the closing date. Information submitted after this date will not be considered. Applications that meet minimum and/or selective qualifications will be referred to the hiring unit for interview selection. Units will select those candidates most closely demonstrating the qualifications for interview.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.

A copy of your proof of eligibility (DD 214) for Veterans’ Credit must be in this office and completely verified before Veterans’ Credit will be approved.  Permanent State employees do not need to submit proof of eligibility for Veterans’ Credit.
