This is a recruitment for the Maryland Public Service Commission in the Office of Staff  Counsel.

Main Purpose of Job

The position provides administrative and secretarial support to the division that handles the legal work for the technical staff of the Public Service Commission.

Excellent organizational and communication skills are essential.

POSITION DUTIES

  • answer telephone; schedule meetings; type and proof division filing documents, testimony exhibits, letters, memos, tables, labels, expense and travel   forms, briefs, and other items;
  • file case material, correspondence, and periodicals;
  • maintain a division (bucksheet) database;
  • order publications, and obtain data from libraries, publishers and other sources;
  • collect and deliver timesheets;
  • order and maintain division supplies; and perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Three years performing secretarial or clerical work involving typing duties.

Notes

1. Additional secretarial or clerical experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

 2. Thirty credit hours with a major in secretarial science or office technology from an accredited college may be substituted at the rate of thirty credits for one year of experience for up to two years of the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Administration classifications or Administrative, Clerical, or Office Services specialty codes in the Administrative Support field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.  

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

A minimum of one year experience working in a legal environment using Micro Soft Word.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Demonstrated ability to accurately type on a typewriter or keyboard on a personal computer, computer terminal or work processor at a minimum of forty words per minute may be required, depending on the specific requirements of the position.

SELECTION PROCESS

Only candidates who meet the minimum and selective qualifications will be evaluated for this classification.  Successful candidates will be ranked as Best Qualified, Better Qualified and Qualified and placed on the eligible list for one year.
