A/D Associate Counselor: Grade 14, Salary Range- $38,117.00- $60,481.00/year

(Salary and grade will be based on selected candidate's education, experience, and license.)

LOCATION OF POSITION

DHMH, Wicomico County Health Department, Salisbury, MD

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to provide counseling to residents of Wicomico County with substance use disorders by assessment, intervention, treatment, and rehabilitation.  This position is designated emergency essential.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

A/D Supervised Counselor, Provisional:

Education: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists under the requirements for Alcohol and Drug Trainees.

Experience: None.

A/D Supervised Counselor:

Education: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists under the requirements for Certified Supervised Counselors-Alcohol and Drug.

Experience: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists under the requirements for Certified Supervised Counselors-Alcohol and Drug.

A/D Associate Counselor, Provisional:

Education: Possession of a bachelor’s degree in a health or human services counseling field from an accredited educational institution approved by the Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists or completion of a program of studies judged by the Board to be substantially equivalent in subject matter and training.

Experience: None.

A/D Associate Counselor:

Education: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists under the requirements for Certified Associate Counselors-Alcohol and Drug.

Experience: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists under the certification requirements for Certified Associate Counselors-Alcohol and Drug.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

A/D Supervised Counselor, Provisional:

1. In accordance with Health Occupations Title 17 and Code of Maryland Regulations 10.58.07, employees in this classification must apply for and receive a letter of authorization to practice as a trainee from the Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists within 90 days of their date of hire.

2. In accordance with Health Occupations Title 17 employees in this classification must also successfully obtain certification from the Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists as a Certified Supervised Counselor-Alcohol and Drug within one year of meeting the experience requirement for a Certified Supervised Counselor-Alcohol and Drug.

3. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

A/D Supervised Counselor:

1. In accordance with Health Occupations Title 17 and Code of Maryland Regulations 10.58.07, candidates appointed to positions in this classification must be eligible for and obtain certification by the Board of Professional Counselors as a Certified Supervised Counselor-Alcohol and Drug prior to permanent appointment.  A copy of your current license, license verification, or license number and expiration date must accompany your application.

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

A/D Associate Counselor, Provisional:

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Employees in these classifications are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.

2. Employees in this classification perform the work in a Joint Commission for the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) or a Maryland State certified addictions program.  (*This only applies to the A/D Supervised Counselor, Provisional and A/D Supervised Counselor.)

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
