ALCOHOL AND DRUG SUPERVISED COUNSELOR

This is a specific recruitment for the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services.  The resulting eligible list will be used to fill positions in DPSCS Correctional facilities throughout the State of Maryland.  Applicants certified to this list will remain eligible for at least one year.

Although this particular position is located at the Baltimore City Detention Center in Baltimore, Maryland, this recruitment will be used to fill future vacancies throughout the State of Maryland.  Therefore, you should indicate every MD County where you are willing to accept employment on your application.

To assess all incoming inmates in a designated institution for substance abuse problems and provide counseling, intervention, intense treatment and rehabilitation services to those inmates with substance about disorder(s) which may also include inmates that are dually diagnosed. Develop client treatment plans and make referrals to facilitate the clients' use of available support systems and community resources.

Education: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists under the requirements for Certified Supervised Counselors-Alcohol and Drug.

Experience: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists under the requirements for Certified Supervised Counselors-Alcohol and Drug.

1. In accordance with Health Occupations Title 17 and Code of Maryland Regulations 10.58.07, candidates appointed to positions in this classification must be eligible for and obtain certification by the Board of Professional Counselors as a Certified Supervised Counselor-Alcohol and Drug prior to permanent appointment.

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

1. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.

2. Employees in this classification perform the work in a Joint Commission for the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) or a Maryland State certified addictions program.

The examination may consist of a rating of your education, training and experience related to the requirements of the job.  If you do not receive a request for supplemental information, the rating may be based on your application.  It is important that you provide complete and accurate information on your application.  Successful candidates will be placed on the employment eligibility list categorized as BEST QUALIFIED, BETTER QUALIFIED, or QUALIFIED.  The list will be valid for at least one year and may be extended.  The list will be used by the hiring agency to select employees.
