LOCATION OF POSITION

Crownsville, Maryland

In the future, DHCD will be relocating from Crownsville, Anne Arundel County, to the New Carrollton transit stop location in Prince George’s County.

POSITION DUTIES

DHCD has an immediate opening for a Loan Underwriter II primarily in conjunction with the Maryland Mortgage Program products.  The Loan Underwriter in the Single Family Homeownership program: (1) evaluates the risk involved in providing financing for single family residential mortgages; (2) underwrites home ownership development projects for permanent mortgage funds; (3) reviews documentation on lender loans to determine compliance with federal, State and Program criteria, and mortgage revenue bond requirements; (4) audits files for compliance and quality assurance; and (5) assists in lender training sessions.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS ARE REQUIRED. Please read carefully.

Education: A Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Management, Finance or related field.

Experience: Two years of experience evaluating the risk involved in granting loans or insurance for single family home mortgages.

Note:

1. Additional experience described above may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in loan specialist classification or loan specialist specialty codes in the loan specialist field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.  

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Designation as a FHA Direct Endorsement (D.E.) underwriter

Successful applicants will possess excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.  They will have the ability to skillfully evaluate and communicate the risks associated with high LTV loans and be familiar with FHA and other industry-standard underwriting guidelines.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
