LOCATION OF POSITION

Alfred D. Noyes Center located in Montgomery County, Maryland.

Main Purpose of Job

The Maintenance Chief IV will provide a supervisory-level of expertise in building maintenance work.

POSITION DUTIES

The Maintenance Chief IV will be responsible for the construction, installation, alterations, renovations, preventive maintenance, repairs, and snow removal at the Alfred D. Noyes Center of the Maryland Dept. of Juvenile Services. The incumbent will be responsible for the daily uninterrupted operation of heating, air conditioning, lighting, sanitation, and all other institutional equipment and systems.

The Maintenance Chief IV will supervise building maintenance personnel and outside contractors who perform maintenance of the facilities; including ensuring compliance with health, safety, and building codes.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education: Completion of eighth grade.

Experience: Five years experience in licensed stationary engineering including four years of responsibility for assigning, reviewing and approving the work of other building maintenance or building construction workers.

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher, as a non-commissioned officer in utilities classifications or mechanical maintenance management specialty codes in utility systems repair, on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates who possess a trade license and/or certification in one of the following trades are highly desired: carpentry, electrical/electrician, building/facility maintenance, HVAC, painting, or plumbing.

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

Candidate must be willing to adhere to a 24/7 on-call shift/work environment.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in the licensed option must possess and maintain a current Maryland First Grade Stationary Engineer License from the Board of Examining Engineers and must list the license number and date on the application.

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

SELECTION PROCESS

Applicants who meet the Minimum Qualifications will be placed on the eligible list categorized as Best Qualified, Better Qualified, or Qualified. Candidates shall be certified to the eligible list for a year.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

The assessment will be a rating of your application based on your education, training, and experience as it relate to the requirements of the position. For education obtained outside the U.S., you will be required to provide proof of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service.
