Main Purpose of Job

This position assists the Nuclear Planning Manager by performing operational checks and services on communications equipment and radiological instruments and other functions associated with nuclear power plant emergency preparedness. The incumbent serves as a member of the Department's nuclear emergency response organization and on-call duty officer, as well as, may be assigned to work evenings and weekends and may be required to perform emergency response duties on a 24/7 recall basis. The incumbent may be required to enter areas where radioactive material and radiation producing devices are used and, therefore, must observe radiation control measures to prevent or reduce risk of overexposure to radioactive materials.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education: A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 30 credits in mathematical, physical or biological sciences.

Experience: None

Note:

Candidates may substitute experience in the recognition, evaluation and control of radiological hazards to employees and the general public on a year-for-year basis for the required education

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license.

SELECTION PROCESS

Only candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be considered. It is imperative that you give complete information on your application. Please note that you will be required by the appointing agency to provide proof upon hire for all certifications, licenses, education and work experiences. For education obtained outside the U.S., you will be required to provide proof of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

The examination will consist of a rating of your training and experience as they relate to the needs of the position. Candidates will be placed on the employment list categorized as BEST QUALIFIED, BETTER QUALIFIED AND QUALIFIED and remain eligible for consideration for at least one year from the date of the examination.

This list will be used by the hiring agency to select employees. You must possess the minimum qualifications before you may be selected for a State position. Verification will be completed by the Appointing Authority.

If you are scheduled to complete an education or licensing requirement within six months of the examination, you may participate in the examination process.

Permanent State employees may also complete necessary experience based on the number of hours worked per week. You must include on your application the time in such activity

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
