Main Purpose of Job

Social Media and Communications Specialist

The person in this position coordinates social media and marketing activities, assists with production and events, and manages social media activity. He or she creates engaging, relevant content for use on the website, social media and marketing materials. The position ensures marketing communications needs are tracked, delivered and measured, and performs varied tasks including research, inventory tracking, event planning, materials development and collaboration with sales channels and industry partners.

** This position requires at least 40% travel. **

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education: Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university with at least 30 semester credit hours in one or more of the following subjects: English, journalism, public relations, writing or other similar and related courses.

Experience: Three years experience in public information, public relations, journalism or other related experience in publicity or promotional work.

Note:

1. Applicants may substitute additional experience as described above for the required college education on a year-for year basis.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in public affairs classification or public affairs specialty codes in the information and arts field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. The preferred candidate demonstrates familiarity with various social media channels including blogs and articles. 

2. Desired qualifications include ability to edit video to create content; video pre-production planning and coordination; lighting and equipment management.
