THIS RECRUITMENT IS LIMITED TO CURRENT PERMANENT AND CONTRACTUAL DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES (DNR) EMPLOYEES ONLY.

This is a position specific recruitment for the Department of Natural Resources, Land Acquisition and Planning Unit- Annapolis, Maryland location.  This recruitment will be used to fill current and future vacancies for this position/function only.  The resulting eligible list will be maintained for one year.  Persons interested in future vacancies within this classification must re-apply.

LOCATION OF POSITION

Annapolis, MD (Anne Arundel County)

Main Purpose of Job

The Department of Natural Resources, Land Acquisition & Planning Unit, is currently accepting applications for a Natural Resource Planner II position in Tawes State Office Building located in Annapolis, Maryland. This position will be responsible for managing the inventory of land records information using modern relational database technologies maintaining and enhancing internal GIS feature datasets and geo-processing tools within a multi-user versioned enterprise geodatabase. Duties will also include composing and producing map products from an enterprise GIS including paper, digital and interactive map products to support property stewardship and planning activities. In addition this position will perform GPS mapping in the field, and compile and prepare GPS cartographic information for inclusion into various projects, cartographic graphics, illustrated reports, website and Trail App applications. Duties will also include GPS field functions under adverse field and weather conditions along with performing office functions that will be supervised by multiple managers.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education: Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in an environmental science or natural resources planning, management or development.

Experience: One year of experience in natural resources planning or applied environmental science.

Notes:

1. Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in urban or regional planning, engineering, physical geography, or the physical, chemical, biological sciences and one year of experience in natural resources planning or applied environmental science may be substituted for the required education.

2. Possession of a Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in natural resources planning, management, administration, development, environmental, urban or regional planning; resources economics or development; environmental system management; water or land resources planning and management; environmental landscape architecture; or the physical, biological, chemical or environmental sciences maybe substituted for up to three years of the required experience.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

One (1) year of the above experience in the evaluation, location and analysis of natural resource and recreational data for the production of planning documents.

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

This is an internal recruitment limited to current permanent and contractual employees of the Department of Natural Resources (DNR).

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
