Introduction

This is a position specific recruitment for the Department of Public Safety & Correctional Services (DPSCS). The resulting eligible list will be used to fill current and future vacancies within DPSCS. This list will be valid for one year.

The position is for a Telecommunication Support Specialist for the Information Technology & Communications Division of the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS).

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to insure the availability of adequate telecommunication services to users twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. This includes lead level of work planning, integrating and maintaining software and hardware to include operating systems software and network communications software. This position is considered emergency essential by DPSCS.

POSITION DUTIES

Resolves technical Issues and problems

Receives trouble tickets from Remedy Call Tracking Systems, the TSR process as well as emails and telephone calls

Meet with users to discuss circumstances and/or symptoms of problems in order to determine proper course of action to obtain resolution

Communicate with management, the findings of meetings with user and propose possible solutions or alternatives

Develop and maintain proficiency in the use of agency standard telecommunication technologies

Assist and train users in the operation of telecommunication devices

Determine customer needs, answer questions and volunteer necessary information

Alert users on status of tickets

Performs other related duties

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education: Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university.

Experience: One (I) year experience in administrative or professional work.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute additional experience in administrative staff or professional work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute additional graduate level education at an accredited college or university at the rate of 30 semester credit hours for each year of the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. Experience administering and supporting large PBX, Voicemail and call accounting system as both stand alone and campus environment.

2. Experience installing, troubleshooting and repairing CAT3 and CAT5 cabling.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
