DHMH, Developmental Disabilities Administration, Southern Maryland Regional Office, Laurel, MD

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to assure that quality services are being provided to consumers in the Southern Region of Maryland through monitoring of DDA servces and providing technical assistance to staff employed at provider agencies.  Job duties will include site visits that will entail:  reviewing and following up of incident reports; providing technical assistance to provider staff; developing curriculum materials used for technical assistance; interpretation and training on COMAR Title XIX; completing and maintaining reports; performance audits; facilitating problem solving with consumers and providers; reviewing quality assurance plans/annual updates for licensed providers; and, reviewing QA plans for agencies in the process of licensure.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education: Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in nursing, social work, psychology, education, counseling or a related field.

Experience: Two years of professional experience in health services, one year of which must have been in professional work related to the support services and programs for developmentally disabled clients.

Notes:

1. Applicants may substitute a master’s degree from an accredited college or university in a health or human service field for one year of the required general experience.

2. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in another field plus one additional year of professional experience in health services may be substituted for the specific degree.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Health Care Administration classifications or Civil Affairs Specialist specialty codes in the health related field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Qualified candidates must possess one year of experience monitoring consumer services through site visits.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience resolving crisis situations using available resources and experience providing accurate and timely information to consumers and interfacing with people is preferred.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
