The Maryland State Retirement Agency is seeking a candidate for the Administrative Officer II position within the Benefits Processing Unit.

Main Purpose of Job

This position serves as the Supervisor of the Estimate Processing Team in the Retirement Processing Section of the Benefits Processing Unit. This team is responsible for annually processing approximately 17,000 estimate applications received from members of the System.

The incumbent reports to the Retirement Processing Manager and supervises a staff of five (5) para-professional employees. Primary responsibilities include: hiring and training employees, assigning estimates applications to be worked or checked to staff, tracking estimate applications using Microsoft Access, reviewing and approving calculation worksheets prepared by staff, resolving issues and discrepancies related to the processing of estimate applications, and the full range of supervisory duties (e.g. assigning and reviewing work,approving and or denying leave,and conducting performance evaluations).

POSITION DUTIES

The supervisor of the Estimate Processing Team may assume the responsibilities of the supervisor of the Retirement Application Processing Team. The duties of the Estimate Processing Team supervisor may be rotated with the duties of the supervisor of the Retirement Application Processing Team to ensure that staff is cross-trained in all areas of processing and to ensure smooth operations of the Retirement Processing Unit.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education: Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university.

Experience: Two years experience in administrative or professional work.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute additional experience in administrative staff or professional work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute additional graduate level education at an accredited college or university at the rate of 30 semester credit hours for each year of the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work that included the regular independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting complex administrative plans, policies, rules or regulations or analysis of operational programs or procedures with recommendations for improvement on a year to year basis for the required education and experience.

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

This position is open to the current employees of the Maryand State Retirement Agency.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
