Main Purpose of Job

The Pharmacist in this part time 50% classification is required to conduct inspections with a high degree of expertise seeking to ensure that legally established standards and regulations are maintained for all in-state pharmacies and wholesale distributorships (establishments) by engaging in managerial work supervising statewide inspections performed by four regional Inspectors of the Board of Pharmacy Compliance Unit. This is accomplished through providing ongoing training, supervision and overseeing complicated reviews of opening, annual and closing inspections, follow-up visits, and inspections as requested in cooperation with Board inspections or joint investigation with the Division of Drug Control, Food and Drug Administration, Drug Enforcement Administration, or other state, local or federal government agency.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Pharmacy.

Experience: Four years of experience as a Registered Pharmacist or two years of experience dispensing and compounding prescribed medications, drugs and other pharmaceuticals for patient care at a State facility.

Note:  Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Pharmacist classification or Pharmacist specialty codes in the Pharmacist field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Registered Pharmacist from the Maryland State Board of Pharmacy, 4201 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215.   A copy of your current license must accompany your application.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1.  Employees in this classification are subject to call-in and, therefore, will be required to provide the facility with a phone number at which they can be reached.

2.  Employees in the classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with the Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
