DHMH- Prevention and Health Promotion Office of Infectious Disease and Preventive Care Services, Center for Tuberculosis Control and Prevention (CTBCP), Baltimore, MD.

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to function as primary epidemiologist responsible for the daily operational surveillance and program evaluation activities of the Center for TB Control and Prevention. The position provides oversight of national and program-specific surveillance/ reporting databases, analysis of data according to CDC and state-defined criteria, and is responsible for writing regular Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) required and other reports. This person will conduct epidemiologic analysis; inform Center staff regarding the programmatic impact of findings; periodically conduct field visits to perform quality reviews of local tuberculosis (TB) activities (e.g. case cohort reviews); provide education and training of local health department staff; and participate in other Center activities as required. This position serves as a primary TB surveillance authority within the Center and works with other Center staff to develop appropriate policies/procedures regarding surveillance data management. This position functions as the primary surveillance and program evaluation contact point to CDC and assumes primary responsibility for ensuring program policies and procedures adhere to state and national laws as well as guidelines and standards specific to data security, patient confidentiality, and electronic data management.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education: A Master’s degree in the field of Public Health from an accredited college or university with a minimum of three graduate courses in Epidemiology and one graduate course in Biostatistics.

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Health Care Science  classifications or Clinical Lab, Medical Scientists, or Bio Medical Lab Officer specialty codes in the health research field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The successful applicant should have training and some experience in infectious disease surveillance, including a basic working knowledge of tuberculosis (TB) disease and transmission. Experience in creating and interpreting surveillance graphs and charts and writing summary reports is also desired.

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
