Main Purpose of Job

The Registered Nurse Manager has responsibility for planning and coordinating provision of care throughout the hospital on an assigned shift. This position directly supervises the Central Nursing Office RN Supervisor, Staffing Coordinators and the Nursing Transportation Office. This person serves as the nursing department's coordinator for modified duty staff on FMLA, and as the Hospital Center's Agency Technical Representative in managing the State's drug testing program for weekends and holidays. The Nurse Manager provides administrative and clinical supervision in the absence of the Assistant Director of Nursing, and may provide direct nursing care as needed and perform other related duties. This employee collaborates with the Director of Nursing and the Assistant Director of Nursing in the implementation and evaluation of the department's philosophy, objectives, standards, policies/procedures, and nursing practices. This is an Emergency Essential position required to have and maintain a valid Maryland Driver's License and able to drive State Vehicles in accordance to State of Maryland Policies and Procedures for Drivers of State Vehicles.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education: A Bachelor's degree in Nursing or a health-related field from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Four years of experience as a Registered Nurse to include two years in psychiatric nursing and one year in a supervisory, administrative or consultative capacity.

Notes:

1. A Master's degree in Nursing or a health-related field from an accredited college or university and two years of experience as a Registered Nurse in the option for which application is made may be substituted for the education and experience requirements.

2. Six years of experience as a Registered Nurse to include three years in a supervisory, administrative or teaching capacity in the option for which application is made may be substituted for the Education and Experience requirements.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Nursing classifications or Nursing and Hospital Administration specialty codes in the Nursing field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Registered Nurse from the Maryland State Board of Nursing, 4140 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215. A copy of your license, license verification or license number and expiration date must be attached to your application.

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of an automobile. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
