POSITION DUTIES

This Internal Auditor II recruitment effort is for a 60% part-time position located within the Director's Office of the Revenue Administration Division. The incumbent of this position will monitor compliance with all procedures designed for internal control purposes to prevent and detect errors and irregularities. In addition, this incumbent will make recommendations for continuous improvement of RAD business processes to achieve best efficiencies in the delivery of services and ensure continued adherence to remedial measures taken in response to OLA recommendations and findings.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education: Possession of a bachelor's degree in accounting from an accredited college or university or a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with 30 credit hours in accounting and related courses, including or supplemented by 3 credit hours in auditing.

Experience: Three years of experience conducting financial and operational internal audits that include elements for finance and compliance, economy and efficiency, and program results.

 NOTES:

  1. Applicants who have met the requirements for admission to the CPA examination prior to July 1, 1974 will be considered to have met the educational requirement referenced above.
  2. Possession of a certificate as a Certified Public Accountant or Certified Internal Auditor or a master’s degree in accounting from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
  3. Applicants may substitute one year of professional accounting experience for one year of auditing experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Specialized Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting and/or Management Information Systems and/or CPA.
  • Extensive experience in public or governmental auditing, accounting, financial analysis, operations management or tax administration
  • Experience in business process improvement projects

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties may be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

Qualifying applicants are subject to an oral interview.  Prior to appointment, the employee must successfully undergo a comprehensive background investigation including a review of criminal, MVA and tax records; and determination of legal authorization to work in the United States or under the United States Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986.  Upon initial appointment OR promotion to a position in the State Personnel Management System, an employee is required to serve an initial six month probationary period.  This probationary period may be extended an additional six months under certain circumstances at the discretion of the appointing authority.
