Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to supervise and oversee the daily operation of the Patient Certification Unit within the Kidney Disease Program of Maryland (KDP) and determine recipient eligibility in accordance with COMAR regulations. This position provides supervision to the patient certification staff in KDP, in addition to acting as liaison and providing cooperative relationships with the end stage of renal disease (ESRD) community.  Job duties include:  Interpreting KDP regulations and policies to recipients, social workers and providers; Calculating recipient's premiums in accordance with COMAR regulations and performing subsequent billing procedures;  Maintaining accurate recipient files and premium invoices; and, responding to recipient and provider inquiries in a timely and efficient manners.  This position supervises a Medical Care Program Associate.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Four years of clerical experience applying policies in a medical care, health insurance or federal or State entitlement program to include two years applying, interpreting and processing program specific information, policies, regulations and guidelines in a medical care program.

Notes:

1. Additional general clerical experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. College credits from an accredited college or university may be substituted for the required experience at the rate of 30 credit hours for one year of experience.
