Main Purpose of Job

This position is as a Unit Director with responsibility for direct oversight and management/administration of unit-based activities and the supervision of clinical staff assigned to the unit. The individual will be a fully privileged member of the Medical Staff of Springfield Hospital Center. The position holder must facilitate high quality patient care and ensure best practices are followed through regular attendance at unit morning reports and by monitoring unit functioning through observation of patient/team interactions and review of medical record documentation. This requires 24/7 availability to offer advice or resolve conflicts. In addition to this ongoing assessment, the position requires the offering of recommendations for improving clinical interventions and leadership skills in managing effective team functioning. This position influences the clinical functioning of the hospital via participation in Medical Staff meetings and service on assigned hospital committees. The physician is also charged with direct patient care responsibilities (i.e. the duty of evaluating, diagnosing, admitting, treating patients, and making discharge and after-care plans for the patients admitted to the hospital, with the participation of the patients, most commonly of young adult age and middle age, less commonly of geriatric age, and only rarely adolescents on the deaf unit.) All clinical activities and duties are to be carried out in accordance with hospital policies, rules and regulations in accordance with performance improvement goals, and within the fiscal constraints mandated to the hospital. All clinical activities are to be documented in the medical record as required by hospital policies. The physician supports the mission of the organization through active administrative and direct participation in clinical efforts to provide treatment in a recovery oriented environment. The foundation of a recovery oriented environment is respect and a commitment to safety in the least restrictive manner possible.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Requires an MD degree from an accredited college or university, Board Certification in Psychiatry, and two years of medical practice as a Psychiatrist, preferably at a supervisory or administrative level.

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

Applicants must be licensed by the Maryland Board of Physicians to practice medicine under Maryland State Law. A copy of the current license must be attached to the application. A copy of your license must be attached to your application.
