Howard County - Jessup. MCIJ – Mail Distribution

Main Purpose of Job

(MCE) Officer Trainee is the entry level of work involving the security, training and supervision of adult inmates engaged in technical and production work of an industrial shop located in a correctional institution. The main purpose of this position is to organize and oversee the production of MCE products in the mailing and Distribution plan in Howard County - Jessup.

POSITION DUTIES

The incumbent is responsible for training and supervising an inmate work force in the operation of a manufacturing plant and for the production of related products.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Mail room experience and familiarity of business machines operations as well as experience with postal regulations is desirable.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1- Specific educational requirements and other selection standards are set by the Maryland Correctional Training Commission in accordance with Correctional Services Article, Section 8-209 of the Annotated Code and are listed in the Code of Maryland Regulations Title 12, Subtitle 10, Chapter 01.

If selected for this position you must meet the selection standards required and successfully complete the training prescribed by the Maryland Correctional Training Commission for a correctional officer during their probationary period, (Correctional Services Article, Section 8-209). Selection standards for correctional officer training are listed in detail in the Code of Maryland Regulations Title 12, Subtitle 10, Chapter 01 and include the following:

U.S. Citizenship or Resident Alien status
Must be at least 21 years of age
A completed background investigation
Oral interview
Physical examination.

2- Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.

SELECTION PROCESS

Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be evaluated. The evaluation may be a rating of your Application based on your Education, Training and Experience as it relates to the requirements of the position. Therefore, it is essential that you provide complete and accurate information on your Application. Please report all related Education, Experience, dates and hours of work. For education obtained outside the U.S., a copy of the Equivalent American Education as determined by a Foreign Credential Evaluation service must accompany the Application. All information concerning you Qualifications must be submitted by the closing date. We will not consider information submitted after this date. Applicants certified to list will receive eligibility for a period of one (1) year. Eligibility may be extended beyond one (1) year period.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
