Main Purpose of Job

Serving as the Director, Office of Policy and Planning of the Prevention and Health Promotion Administration (PHPA), this position reports directly to the Deputy Director and Director of PHPA. The main purpose of this position is to plan and direct the work of OPP and participate in the formulation of policy for PHPA. The position supervises at least four professional level staff and interns periodically. The position is responsible for: serving as the Administration's legislative liaison and Public Information Act designee; advising the Director on federal, state, and local government and public affairs issues; serving on task force and committees as assigned by the Director; drafting briefing papers, JCRs, legislative reports, and position statements for the Director; and, for serving as the Administration's regulations coordinator. This position is responsible for: handling questions from the community as well as from the General Assembly related to all programs within the Administration; developing and reviewing public information documents; responding to controlled correspondence; and, coordinating Public Information Act (PIA)/Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests. This position also handles special projects for PHPA.

MINIMUM EDUCATION OR GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

Qualified applicants will possess a masters degree in public health or a related field and at least three years of experience related to public health policy, regulations, and/or legislation in one or more of the following areas: chronic disease, cancer, maternal and child health, infectious disease, and/or environmental health, including have two years of supervisory experience.
