Main Purpose of Job

The Department of Information Technology (DoIT) is seeking a candidate to be the Chief of Infrastructure. This position has high-level oversight over the Divisions that manage and operate foundational assets used for the delivery of IT services to other state agencies. These assets include the State Voice and Data networks, hosting facilities, communications facilities, fiber optic cable and microwave assets, network and security operations center, and the public safety network. This position serves as one of the highest levels of management in DoIT, providing high-level oversight over 4 Division Directors. The 4 Divisions consist of technical Operations Center, Hosting Centers and Transport, Statewide Radio Systems, and Network Services. This is a management service position that will serve at the pleasure of the appointing authority.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education: Bachelors degree in Business, or Computer Science, MIS, Electrical Engineering, or other technical degree.

Experience:

Five years of experience managing the engineering or operations of an IT or telecommunications service organization;

Three years of experience running mission critical 24x7 operations;

Three years of experience operating voice networks, either traditional TDM networks or VoIP, and multi-service/multi-client networks running MPLS; 

 Demonstrated experience creating financial models and establishing costs (for sales or chargeback scenarios) of IT or telecommunications services;

 Three years experience in providing technical strategy to an organization;

 Three years of experience preparing and managing annual budgets in excess of $10M.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or an MBA.

Experience:

Experience operating commercial ISP, NSP, web hosting, or data center operations;

Experience operating data center facilities or multi-tenant virtual server environments.
