Main Purpose of Job

This is a professional position responsible for supervising the database administration and development for the Education Accountability section of the Curriculum, Assessment, and Accountability (DCAA) Division.

POSITION DUTIES

Supervises and performs application and database development functions to include analyzing requirements, designing, developing, testing, deploying, and maintaining the Department’s applications and databases in a development, test and production environment; supervises the creation of databases; defines user requirements, develops data definitions and maintains the repository of the Departments databases; reviews technical literature and attends workshops, seminars and training classes to remain updated on the latest developments in database management systems and related data processing technology; oversees the configuring, restructuring, troubleshooting and capacity analysis of databases.

MINIMUM EDUCATION OR GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in from an accredited college or university in Computer Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Computer Science or other information technology related field to include course work in database management systems.  

EXPERIENCE: Three years of experience designing, developing, implementing, maintaining and controlling database management systems for computers in an Oracle environment.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of the principals and practices of designing, developing, deploying, maintaining and controlling database management systems for computers; knowledge of database management systems, software and development tools; knowledge of generally accepted computer programming languages; skill in implementing, controlling and evaluating database management systems; skill in documenting new and revised database management systems procedures and standards; skill in using diagnostic and performance tools and other software products to maintain established standards for database management systems; ability to communicate effectively and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with systems users, vendors, computer operations personnel, programmer analysts and technical support specialists; ability to plan, coordinate, supervise and evaluate the work of Database specialists.
