Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to provide creative and technical expertise in online computerized post production utilizing various Avid non-linear editing systems along with a suite of software tools.  This position is designed to integrate the editor with clients, both in house and out of house, who bring their projects to the editor for completion with expectations of a high level of professional service.  The editor is expected to adhere to and demonstrate a working knowledge of PBS/FCC technical specifications.  This position also interacts and shares projects and media with other editors and producers.

POSITION DUTIES

  • Avid editing import and organize video, audio and graphics provided by client into manageable bins of elements with which to work.  Select and decide which elements should be used to convey the message of the product, as provided by the client.  Edit the elements into a sequence to create element reels, opening the animations, promos, segments or entire shows.  Save all project information for archival purposes.  provide file based versions along with tape of disk outputs.  Meet all PBS/FCC specifications.
  • Perform basic maintenance and troubleshooting of the assigned edit suite of equipment.  This includes cleaning files off of media drives, checking and installing updates and patches and doing system backups.  This position must also give feedback to their supervisor of any equipment malfunctions so that repairs can be implemented.
  • Perform taperoom duties as assigned or needed.  Tape duplications may be required along with format conversion.  Some tape operation and support for live studio productions along with tape encoding and dvd creation and duplication.
  • Completion of work orders, timesheets, checking email and schedules to stay informed and up to date with clients and teammates.  This includes interaction with producers and occasionally equipment vendors.  participation in weekly team meetings is greatly encouraged.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Four years of television production experience as an editor (2 years which must include Avid editing experience)
