Main Purpose of Job

Responsible for proper operation and maintenance of UHF DTV transmitters in order to comply with FCC rules and regulations and meet all performance criteria for quality reception. Required to perform maintenance and operation of all equipment located at the respective transmitter or microwave sites, including: high power UHF DTV transmitters and ancillary equipment, microwave and fiber-optic distribution equipment, transmitter remote control equipment, Emergency Alert System equipment, DTV, RF and electronics test and measurement systems and video monitoring systems.

POSITION DUTIES

  • Locates defects such as loose connections, broken wires, or burned out components, using schematic diagrams, test equipment and inspection tages.
  • Inspects wiring and soldering, and performs repairs, using appropriate equipment.
  • Replaces defective components such as conductors, resistors, semiconductors, and integrated circuits.
  • Tests noise levels and audio quality using appropriate equipment.
  • Monitors equipment to detect flaws in transmission and makes necessary and appropriate adjustment.
  • Removes and replaces defective units.
  • Adjusts receivers for maximum sensitivity and adjusts transmitters for maximum output.
  • Installs, tests, modifies, and repairs intercommunications systems.
  • Tests emergency transmitter to ensure readiness.
  • Prepares and maintains maintenance logs and data sheets.
  • Maintains inventory of equipment and parts and completes necessary inventory paperwork.
  • May perform other duties as assigned or necessary for the success of the division.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Associates degree in electronics or electrical engineering OR equivalent combination of related coursework and experience
  • Two years experience in broadcast environment performing maintenance, repair and installation of transmitting and receiving equipment and systems.  Experience must include preventative maintenance procedures

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

  • This position is on-call and may require flexible work schedule including nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Work may occur outdoors in unfavorable weather conditions.
  • Must be able to lift equipment in excess of 50lbs. and install equipment in 7 foot racks.
    Lift, remove and install water pumps in excess of 100 lbs.
  • Ability to climb ladders to work on transmission line, lighting and building rooftop equipment.
