Main Purpose of Job

Videographers are the primary source for capturing the video images and sound that producers use to create their programs. Contemporary production practices dictate that producers move beyond the confines of the studio and go to the story directly; regardless of where it is. The ability to record high quality material on location, despite its limitations, is the prime asset of the videographer.

POSITION DUTIES

  • Operates portable television cameras, microphones, audio mixers, lighting equipment and various accessories to record visual images and audio for use in productions.
  • Composes and frames each shot, applying the technical aspects of light, filters and camera settings to achieve the effects sought by directors. 
  • Uses cameras in any of several different camera mounts such as stationary, track-mounted, or crane-mounted.
  • Tests, cleans, and maintains equipment to ensure proper working condition.
  • Maintains correct color temperature and levels of exposure of cameras and related equipment relevant to surroundings.
  • Drives the state vehicles in a responsible manner.
    Offers direction to on-camera talent and has a detailed understanding of the essentials of video editing to guide the proper selection of shots.
  • May perform other duties as assigned or necessary for the success of the division.11:11 AM 11/3/2014.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

AA in television production/film or a related field which included a hands-on training experience.  Additional years of directly related experience may be substituted for the education requirement.

EXPERIENCE:

Three years of videography and studio operation experience that includes the operation of video cameras, field lighting and audio equipment.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

This position may require flexible work schedule including nights, weekends and holidays.  This position may require working outside in unfavorable or harsh weather conditions that might include exposure to sun, wind, water, etc.  This position may include long periods of walking, standing, climbing and maneuvering in and around tight spaces.  Ability to lift and carry 50lbs also required.
