Main Purpose of Job

The Contractual Coordinator Special Programs, Health Services III Health Services is the advanced or supervisory level of work directing a program in the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene in a local health department, residential facility or the headquarters administration. The main purpose of this position is providing ongoing supervision and directing the work of the Mental Health Case Management Program. This includes evaluation of case records and staff performance through regularly scheduled conferences for the purpose of determining professional performance and results accomplished. The incumbent will act as a mentor providing advice and guidance to lower-level coordinators and interns, help clients to modify attitudes and patterns of behavior by increasing self-understanding and respond constructively to treatment, assist with adjustment, leading to and following the completion of treatment. The employee will evaluate and review case situations, interventions and case information of staff working with clients, families and community agencies, determine if a crisis situation exists and if it does immediately initiate appropriate intervention techniques. This position is responsible for supervision of staff responsible for Case Management programs that include Targeted Case Management and provide high level leadership skills, able to supervise, organize, direct and evaluate staff. This is a full-time contractual position which may require working occasional evenings/weekends as needed.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education:    Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in nursing, social work, psychology, education, counseling or a related field.

Experience:  Three years of professional experience in health services, two years of which must have been in the option for which application is made.

NOTES:

1.  Applicants may substitute a master’s degree from an accredited college or university in a health or human service field for one year of the required general experience.

2.  Experience in the option must be as follows: professional clinical or administrative work in health or medical services in areas other than Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities or Addictions.

3.  A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in another field plus one additional year of professional experience in health services may be substituted for the specific degree.

4.  Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Health Care Administration classifications or Civil Affairs Specialist specialty codes in the health related field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.
