Main Purpose of Job

The Contractual Social Worker II, Health Services is the full performance level of professional clinical social work providing direct social work services to clients in a special population in a health care setting.  The purpose of this Licensed Certified Social Worker-Clinical position is to provide clinical assessment, mental health counseling and case management of alcohol and/or drug dependent adult residents of Carroll County who are clients in the outpatient addictions treatment program of Carroll County Health Department.  The incumbent will provide direct mental health individual, group, and/or family therapy in accordance with Agency Policies and Procedures, ADAA guidelines and COMAR and maintain an accurate and timely record of all client related correspondence in the patient's chart in accordance with policies and procedures.  The successful applicant should have experience in providing mental health evaluations and therapy and working with those with substance abuse disorders.  In the case of a catastrophic event, as declared by the Health Officer/Designee or higher authority, where it may be necessary to carry out the mission of the Health Department, it may be necessary that the incumbent of this position will be required to report for duty.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education:    Determined by the Maryland State Board of Social Work Examiners under the licensing requirements for Social Workers.

Experience:  Two years experience rendering clinical social work services in a health care or treatment setting subsequent to the receipt of an,approved Master’s degree in Social Work from an accredited college or university.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desirable applicant should have substance abuse and mental health experience providing mental health evaluations and therapy and working with those with substance abuse disorders.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1.  Candidates must be licensed as a Certified Social Worker or Certified Social Worker, Clinical by the Maryland State Board of Social Work Examiners prior to appointment to a position in State service. Applicants who do not have a license may also apply pending receipt of the required license. When the license is obtained, submit a copy to the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene Testing Unit.

2.  Candidates appointed to positions in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of an automobile. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess an appropriate operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
