Introduction

The Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency is seeking a part-time graphic designer. Under the supervision of the assistant director of communications, the employee will design of a variety of pieces, including posters, newsletters, presentation materials, and digital and web graphics in order to promote the goals and objectives of the agency.

Main Purpose of Job

This employee will be responsible for the design and production of a diverse range of visual communications including fliers, posters, newsletters, presentation materials, and digital/web graphics to meet the needs of a busy communications division. The work produced will be under the direction of the assistant director of communications, who will review all materials. The position also requires the employee to perform other general support duties as needed.

POSITION DUTIES

Employee will work with communications team members to develop designs for the bi-monthly retailer and employee newsletters. The employee will be responsible for designing fliers and other print materials on a regular basis to be used for events and other activities. The employee will work quickly and effectively to translate thoughts, ideas and images into cohesive designs for print materials, digital graphics and social media.

Employee is responsible for ensuring deadlines are met on all projects in accordance with project timelines. The employee will need to follow established styles and guidelines to ensure branding is consistent throughout the organization. Attention to detail and ability to proofread work is a must.

As needed, the employee may help with a diverse range of other duties, including taking photographs, shooting short videos, assisting with reception desk duties and other assignments as directed.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education: Graduation from an accredited two-year college or university, with a major in one or more of the following fields: fine arts, visual communications, graphic design (or other graphics-related degree).

Experience: One year experience in the field of graphic design, marketing, communications or other related field.

Notes:

1. Additional experience as defined above may be substituted on a year-for-year basis, for each year of the required education.

2. Applicants whose degree is not in the required major may substitute two years of the required experience for the required major in education.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Selective Qualifications:

1.) One year experience working directly with Graphic Design

2.) Proven knowledge of Adobe InDesign and Photoshop

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Qualifications:

1.) Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university, with a major in one or more of the following fields: graphic design, multi-media, visual arts, or design.

2.) Photography and videography/video editing experience.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
