Main Purpose of Job

The Administrative Officer III performs at the fully proficient level requiring experience and knowledge in administrative processes, management practices and operations. Interprets and applies complex administrative plans or policies, analyzes operational programs or procedures, and makes recommendations. The Administrative Officer III must have the knowledge, skills, and abilities to interpret and implement the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS-Corrections) clearance status process for all Alcohol and Drug Abuse Administration (ADAA) court-ordered defendants housed within the DPSCS. The working title for this position is Alcohol and Drug Abuse Administration Coordinator (ADAA Coordinator).

POSITION DUTIES

Upon receipt of HG§ 8-505 order, initiates clearance process with DPSCS commitment staff.   Provides written documentation and verbal information received to the ADAA.  

Performs initial record check and provides local health department or ADAA HG §8-505 evaluators with information regarding current clearance status for court ordered defendants for inclusion in the HG §8-505 evaluations.

Upon receipt of HG§ 8-507 order or notice of bed availability in conjunction with HG §8-507 order, initiates clearance process with DPSCS commitment staff and Office of Inmate Health Services staff.  

Provides written documentation and verbal information received to the ADAA.   Performs initial record check for HG §8-507 orders and provides ADAA with information regarding the results.

Serves as coordinator for designated institutional liaisons and ADAA evaluators. Problem solves issues specific to preparing offenders for treatment and release.

Completes all documentation and required correspondence to ADAA, DPSCS facilities, and other agencies as deemed necessary. 

Responds to inquiries from the judiciary, public defender’s office, state attorney’s office, and other agencies regarding the DPSCS-Corrections case management process.

Coordinates transportation of defendants from DPSCS to court, treatment facility, or designated location.

Attends and participates in meetings associated with HG §8-505, §8-507 and Letter of Intent cases. Other duties relating to HG §8-505 and §8-507 treatment cases including but not limited to training staff as directed.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education: Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university.

Experience: Three years experience in administrative or professional work.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute additional experience in administrative staff or professional work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute additional graduate level education at an accredited college or university at the rate of 30 semester credit hours for each year of the required experience.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
