Main Purpose of Job
The Contractual Community Health Outreach Worker II is the full performance level of work providing health and disease prevention information to medically underserved populations in the community and assisting them in adopting healthy behaviors. The main purpose of this position is for guiding, supporting and assisting individuals and families in the recovery continuum. The incumbent will facilitate the planning and implementation of recovery support activities at the Howard County Health Department, Howard County Wellness and Recovery Center and other outreach locations. The employee will determine recovery support needs, refer individuals and families to the appropriate community resources that are beyond the agency/Alcohol and Drug Abuse Administration (ADAA). Experience in a behavioral health setting is preferred. Candidates with firsthand experience as a recipient of services in Maryland's behavioral health system are encouraged to apply. This is a peer to peer support position.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: One year of experience in providing information on health care and disease prevention within the community.
NOTE:
Experience providing assistance to individuals in a health care or social services setting may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience in a behavioral health setting is preferred. Candidates with firsthand experience as a recipient of services in Maryland's behavioral health system are encouraged to apply.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
