Main Purpose of Job

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Chesapeake and Coastal Service, is currently accepting applications to fill one Natural Resources Manager II position to work in the Habitat Restoration and Conservation Division of the Chesapeake and Coastal Service. This position is contractual and does not offer state benefits. The position is full time, based out of Annapolis, Maryland, and supports the implementation of projects funded under the Chesapeake and Atlantic Coastal Bays Trust Fund. Travel is required to field work sites around Maryland.

This position serves as a regional ecological restoration specialist and an expert in the areas of environmental impact and restoration. The incumbent is responsible for the management of all phases of ecological restoration projects designed to reduce nutrient pollution to the Bay and enhance, create and or restore terrestrial or aquatic habitats. The selected candidate will work statewide with multiple government partners and citizens participants within a team context. Duties include project planning, managing technical survey activity, preparing and maintaining budgets, and completing restoration projects as assigned. The incumbent will recommend policy changes, supervises technical surveys, recommends and reviews pertinent legislation. Candidates may be required to complete physical work under harsh and adverse conditions (high heat and humidity, cold, biting insects, poison ivy, etc.).

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education: Possession of a high school diploma or a State high school equivalence certificate.

Experience: Seven years of experience either performing, or supervising workers performing technical natural resources or conservation work.

Notes:

1. Pertinent volunteer and/or part-time experience is acceptable. Please document the number of hours spent per week in this type of experience on the application form (MS 100).

2. Applicants may substitute vocational or college education in a natural resources discipline for experience at the rate of one year of education for one year of experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of water quality regulatory issues (permitting, TMDL, MS4)
  • Knowledge of ecology and ecosystem functions
  • Experience with ESRI ArcGIS
