Main Purpose of Job

The Contractual Community Health Educator II is the full performance level of work planning, developing, implementing and promoting health education projects designed to further public awareness and understanding of the factors influencing health status and community health activities and services.  The employee serves as a staff assistant with professional responsibility for health education projects within a program area at the State, regional or local level.  The incumbent will have the professional responsibility for overseeing and implementing the Community Transformation Grant (CTG) and other CTG related health education/health promotion activities.  The employee also will develop and maintain effective community partnerships toward the accomplishment of CTG goals.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education:   Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Public Health Education, Community Health Education or Health Science.

Experience:  One year of experience planning, developing, implementing and promoting health education projects.

NOTE:

1.  Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 18 credit hours in Public Health Education, Community Health Education, Health Science or related behavioral science and two years of experience planning, developing, implementing and promoting health education projects may be substituted for the required education and experience.

2.  Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Health Educator and Community Health classification or Health Educator and Community Health specialty codes in the Public Health field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
