The Department of Agriculture is accepting applications from qualified applicants for an Office Secretary I position within the Pest Industries and Pest Management-Mosquito Control Section. The resulting eligible list will be used to fill this position or function only.

Main Purpose of Job

The primary purpose of tis position as an Office Secretary I provides support to an official administrator or administrative staff, for the Hollywood Mosquito Control Office. Mosquito Control is a service program of the Maryland Department of Agriculture. Which protects public health from mosquito-borne disease and improves the quality of life by reducing pest annoyance caused by mosquitoes.

POSITION DUTIES

The incumbent in this position will prepare, maintain and verify records of expenditures for labor, insecticide, equipment and miscellaneous expenditures for mosquito control in approximately 200 communities in Southern Maryland. Prepare general correspondence, purchase orders, contract and other forms for contractual employees, monthly reports of corporate credit card use, vehicle use records (MFOM) and vehicle preventative maintenance records. The incumbent will also provide general information on Mosquito Control to the public and other duties assigned within this classification.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: One year performing secretarial or clerical work involving typing duties.

Notes:

1. Additional secretarial or clerical experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Thirty credit hours with a major in secretarial science or office technology from an accredited college may be substituted at the rate of thirty credits for one year of experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Administration classifications or Administrative, Clerical, or Office Services specialty codes in the administrative support field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.  

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

One year experience preparing and maintaining records for expenditures for labor, insecticide and equipment.

One year experience preparing purchase orders, contracts and monthly reports.

Once year experience updating and verifying reports in a department database.

SELECTION PROCESS

Only candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be considered for this position.  Credit may be given for relevant part-time, temporary, or volunteer experience, if you list the number of hours worked per week.  For education obtained outside the U.S., you will be required to provide proof of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service.  This evaluation must be submitted with your application.  You must be legally authorized under the United States Immigration Reform and Control Act to be hired in the position for which you apply.  Successful candidates will be ranked as BEST QUALIFIED, BETTER QUALIFIED, or QUALIFIED and placed on the employment (eligible) list for at least one year.
