Introduction

The Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation (DLLR) / Occupational and Professional (O&P) Licensing Boards/Board of Barbers and Cosmetology  are accepting applications from qualified candidates for   2 CONTRACTUAL Licensing and Regulation Inspector positions.  

This is a position specific recruitment. The resulting list of eligible will be used to staff this position or function only. This list will be maintained for one year. You will need to reapply for any future recruitment for this job classification.

LOCATION OF POSITION

This is a field position that will require travel to various locations. One position will be assigned to Anne Arundel and, Howard County and the other position will be assigned to Montgomery and Prince George's County. Please be sure to indicate the counties in which you are interested in working on your application.

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position will be to visit shops and salons for the Boards of Barbers and Cosmetologists to inspect for violations of the laws and regulations.

POSITION DUTIES

Inspectors investigate complaints; issue violation notices; perform new shop inspections on salons and shops applying for a permit; write detailed investigative reports; attend and testify at administrative and regulatory hearings; and other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a State high school equivalency certificate.  

EXPERIENCE: One year of experience obtaining and analyzing factual information, and preparing reports of findings and conclusions for administrative or court hearings.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties that require the operation of a motor vehicle.  Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

All candidates are subject to a background check against files maintained by the Division of Unemployment Insurance (DLLR/DUI) to determine whether any monies are owed to DLLR/DUI as a result of an unemployment insurance overpayment and/or fraud. Any unpaid debt may have an impact on whether or not a candidate is offered employment.

SELECTION PROCESS

Applicants must provide sufficient information on the application  to show they meet the qualifications for this recruitment.  All information concerning the qualifications, including any required documentation (diploma, transcript, certificate, etc.) must be submitted and received by the closing date. Information submitted after this date will not be considered.

Applications that meet qualifications will be referred to the hiring unit for interview selection. Units will select those candidates most closely demonstrating the qualifications for interview.   The certified list will be used by DLLR for a period of one year.

The examination for this recruitment will be an evaluation and rating of the information provided on your application.  Therefore, it is essential that the application is filled out completely and accurately, listing all relevant education and experience and addressing the specific qualifications shown above.

BENEFITS

Due to the contractual nature of the position, the selected candidate will be paid only for hours worked.

This position has no state-paid benefits (i.e. sick leave, annual leave, personal leave, holidays, health insurance, etc.). The person filling this position may purchase healthcare insurance at the state’s group rate.
