Introduction

The Maryland Department of the Environment is seeking applicants for a Natural Resources Planner I.  Please note that this is a contractual position and offers no benefits at this time.

Main Purpose of Job

The position conducts research, analysis and documentation functions in support of the TMDL development function of the Science Services Administration.

POSITION DUTIES

  • This position will conduct a wide range of geographic information system(GIS), statistical & other analyses as well as conduct research & provide documentation for the support of the Chesapeake Bay Watershed modeling efforts.
  • Position will conduct GIS, statistical, pollutant loading and other analyses to support the development of TMDLs in Maryland.
  • This position will provide support in the tracking of TMDLs, Wasteload Allocations & associated information that will aid local jurisdictions in the development of TMDL & Wasteload Allocation implementation plans.

This position involves the use of spreadsheet software, database software, graphics software, GIS softward, statistical analysis software.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education:    Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in an environmental science or natural resources planning, management or development degree.

Experience: None

Notes:  Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in urban or regional planning, engineering, physical geography, or the physical, chemical, biological sciences and one year of experience in natural resources planning or applied environmental science may be substituted for the required education.  Possession of a Master's degree from an accredited college or university in natural resources planning, management administration, development, environmental, urban or regional planning; resources economics or development; environmental system management; water or land resources planning and management; environmental landscape architecture; or the physical, biological, chemical or environmental sciences may be substituted for up to three years of the required experience, if applicable.

 

 

 

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

It is preferred that the ideal candidate possess knowledge or experience with the following:

  1. An understanding of the United States Clean Water Act as it relates to TMDLs;
  2. Possess a basic level of proficiency in computer programming;
  3. Experience with HTML and website management.
