Main Purpose of Job

The Contractual Environmental Health Aide I is the entry level of work in the field of environmental health conducting environmental health surveys and investigations to determine compliance with applicable health and environmental laws and regulations.  The main purpose of this position is to function as technical support for the Environmental Health Department.  This para-professional work will assist others in the determination of compliance with public health laws and regulations. The incumbent will conduct inspections of food establishments, primarily those assessed as low priority according to applicable laws, regulations, publications, and policies.  The timely notification of appropriate office personnel when public health is at jeopardy due to an immediate danger, uncorrected critical violations, or significant violations working under the direction of a registered sanitarian.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education:   Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience:  None.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle.

Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
