Main Purpose of Job

The Department of Natural Resources, Chesapeake and Coastal Service, is currently accepting applications for a Natural Resources Technician- Coastal Training Program Assistant located in Annapolis, Maryland. The position will run from approximately November, 2014 - August, 2015.

The selected candidate will provide technical project management, logistical and administrative support and services to the Maryland Coastal Training Program to support both Coastal Marine Assessment and Chesapeake Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve (CBNERR) initiatives. The position requires a motivated, organized individual to aid in the development of training programs focused on the following topic areas: Watershed Management and Coastal Flooding; Sea Level Rise, Climate Change, and Coastal Hazards; and Estuarine/Riverine Science . Tasks include providing technical expertise for training and programmatic initiatives; administrative and logistical support for training events; aiding in the creation of resources to be used for the training and other program events; conducting informal need assessments of stakeholders to ensure the relevancy and effectiveness of training programs and aiding in the development of content for training events.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education: Completion of sixty credit hours from an accredited college or university, 18 of which are in biology, biochemistry, environmental science, forest technology, arboriculture, aquaculture, natural science, natural  resources management, botany, marine biology, marine ecology, physical oceanography, ichthyology, fisheries management, wildlife management, zoology, or a natural resources management related field of study.                

Experience: None.

Notes:                 

1. Additional experience performing technical biological work in the field of forestry, arboriculture, wildlife, aquaculture, natural resources management, or fisheries may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.                

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in the natural resources management and biological sciences classifications or natural resources management and  biological sciences specialty codes in the biological science technician field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.   

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Strong computer skills and full or part-time experience in climate and coastal science issues is preferred but not required.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties that require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
