Introduction

The Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation, Division of Unemployment Insurance (DUI) Employer Status Unit is accepting applications from qualified, INTERNAL candidates for the position of UI Staff Specialist II.

Main Purpose of Job

The position duties are as follows:

  • Review Status determinations to ensure that the unit is in compliance with Agency directives, policies and procedures regarding proper determination guidelines.
  • Review Train, lead and guide new employees in regards to Status functions.
  • Investigate external and internal requests and respond via e-mail, letter, telephone and or fax with the findings. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Possession of a bachelor’s degree from and accredited four-year college or university.

Experience: Four years of administrative experience in unemployment insurance work involving discretion and independent judgement directly related to unemployment insurance programs.

Notes:

1. Applicants may substitute graduate education for the required experience at the rate of one year of education to one year of experience.

2. Applicants may substitute additional experience as defined above for the required education at the rate of one year of experience for one year of education, for up to four years of the required education.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Human Resources Management classifications or Human Resources Management specialty codes in the unemployment insurance field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

Limited to DLLR-DUI employees only.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

Applications that meet minimum and/or selective qualifications will be referred to the hiring unit for interview selection. Units will select those candidates most closely demonstrating the qualifications for interview.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.

Military Veterans may qualify for additional bonus points towards certification. A copy of your proof of eligibility (DD 214) for Veterans’ Credit must be in this office and completely verified before Veterans’ Credit will be approved.  Permanent State employees do not need to submit proof of eligibility for Veterans’ Credit.
